My Story

Photography only started as a small hobby in 2019 when a group of friends and myself made the plan to go to the Isle Of Man TT in 2020. I purchased my first digital camera (a second-hand Canon 20D) in the hopes of taking some half-decent photos of the racers speeding past the campsite. Sadly, due to a mixture of world events and sickness, this never happened.

Prior to lockdown, I had days out learning to use the camera fully. During lockdown, I tried to get out around the local marina taking photos where I could.

A few months into 2021, I was diagnosed with cancer and started treatment for this, it took a lot of energy to fight and limited the amount of time I could spend walking around with the camera. Fortunately, the treatment worked and got me through this. After the lockdown ended and people could get out and about again, I spent a week in Whitby with family celebrating, this gave the opportunity to be able to spend time walking around taking photos.

It was there that my love of photography really started to take hold.

Trips with my uncle to Stone creek, where we stood in the Humber capturing the sunrise, or to the World War II batteries at Easington cemented this further.

In 2022, being able to stand in an abandoned church in a small village in Scotland gave life to some of my favourite images I’ve taken, only happened by chance due to passing through on the way to Edinburgh.

I have spent the majority of my working life inside kitchens as a chef or in call centres, so to be able to get back to doing something creative is a real passion. For the most part, I have been learning to take photos of the local region’s landscapes and architecture, but over the last year, with a little push I’ve been able to work my first wedding. It went full circle as it was held at the same place my parents celebrated their wedding when I was 13, where the photographer showed me how to take photos at their wedding, I helped the Bride and Groom’s son take photos of his parents at theirs.

A trip to the TT is still on the cards...
